HOTTEST DJ I KNOW

I like many types of music. As a child, I grew up listening to pop rock, and old jazz standards (whatever my dad and uncles listened to). But I would say my first love was when I turned 12, went to my first "house party," and heard my first hip hop songs. It became a huge part of my life growing up, especially during high school, college, and my 20's (geez! how old am I?). I spent so much time in underground clubs in college, my parents would flip to find out what their college money was really going to! I was constantly attracted to the DJ types. I swear, I think I was one in another life. There's something so moving and thrilling about mixing and blending songs, and creating something new...So when I hear a talented DJ that I get excited about, I want to tell everyone!

If you're looking for a DJ that is turning tables "ol' skool," meaning working the crowd and keeping the party moving, DJ BSTANG is the man! Check out his site! You'll see that he not only has rocked it for so many well-known industry artists and celebs, but this truly is his passion! (Check out the early DJ photos on his site!) He also does private parties, (including weddings) as well, when he's not globetrotting. You get to hear some of his music on his site, as well.

On top of that he is a cool, down-to-earth guy. It must be because he has such a cool wife (hahaha..behind every great man there is...).

WARNING: This is a DJ that works it. Your party guests will definitely not sleep, and they'll definitely want to dance all night. So it's not for the faint hearted...hahaha...

Tell him, Guen from GJ Spiller Photography sent ya.  You won't be disappointed.

Wedding Photojournalism at its best!

i couldn't help it...i'm still laughing.

this post has wedding photography that is TRUE photojournalism. if you don't know what that means, it's photography that tells a story or documents what is happening, as it is happening. i hope you enjoy these pictures as much as i have!

Aren't you glad this didn't happen to you...

okay, so I had a bit of free time on my hands (that NEVER happens) and I decided to do a search for "funny photography stories" and this post was the #1 top search result. it has hardly anything to do with photography, but the bride does mention the photographer, so I'm just picturing this. hmmm...how would i handle this situation...keep shooting, and making sure i get the best pix of this bride. mind you, i'm not, by ANY means making fun of this bride. if anything i give her kudos for handling her wedding day with humor, class, and...after 12 years of marriage, able to look back on her pictures and laugh about it. (and share this story with the world!)

that's definitely making lemonade out of lemons.

enjoy!

Lifestyle Portraits

People often ask, "What is a Lifestyle Portrait?"

A lifestyle portrait is an image that tells information about the subject's lifestyle through their environment or how they interact with their environment. The subject's personality shines through. The pictures becomes timeless. It differs from traditional studio portraits because it is not posed or contrived. Sometimes these types of portraits cause anxiety and awkwardness. The lifestyle portrait is spontaneous, and unique to the subject and its environment. The setting could be at a favorite hangout, a family room or yard, a neighborhood park, a beach, or any place that has significance to the subject.

Families are shown interacting with each other in a natural way, a way of recording the family in an authentic, real way. A son's smile to his father. A  little ballerina twirling in front of her bedroom mirror. Brothers sharing an inside joke. A kiss on the cheek from a fiancĂ©. These images can be very beautiful--- a classic.

Contact us if you would like to update your family or couples portrait. If you book before the end of March, we will offer an additional 8x10 as gift from us to you! That way you can frame it and proudly display it in your home, or give as a thoughtful gift.

Wedding Album Showcase

I love designing albums. I never design 2 albums the same. It's difficult because all weddings and couples are different. I think the most exciting thing for me to do, next to photographing, is looking at all the pictures of the event, and choosing which images tell the story of that day. A lot of my images are candid, tender moments, as well as images that give you a sense of "being there," which also includes details, like the setting, the favors, the flowers, the gown, etc.

When I got married last year, I was dreaming about my wedding album, and hoping that everytime I look through my album, I would be able to recall the events, but mostly be able to feel the way I did that day (oooo...goosebumps). My album was something that I knew that I would one day pass down to my children, and maybe my children's children. It would be the Story of Us. I know...corny...but it's so true!

This is a wedding sample album (not all the pages, of course). What happens, is that I design the album pages within a week or so of the wedding, post it online for the newlyweds to view, and they can make changes as they see fit! I know I've done my job when the couple says, "I love them...all!"

Photo Book (shhhh)

Working on a photo book for a couple we did portraits for awhile ago. It's supposed to be a surprise gift for his wife...so shhhhh...To view the pages, click here!

Dog Photo

I'm a sucker for cute doggie photos. I found this one on Yahoo! news. The suit is supposed to be a replica of Leonardo DiCaprio's suit he wore to some award show. The designer is Little Lilly.

My puppy, Popo, is not one for wearing clothes, but I would love to see him in this outfit! That's hot!

I love this photo because it has character and personality, and humor. It's not just "another cute dog" photo. This one makes you want to know the story behind it. If you have any interesting photos that "tell a story," please send them to me! Would love to see it and post it on my blog! Have a great Thursday!

announcing my new niece

here she is, a whole month early...but thankfully, healthy and beautiful! i can't wait til we shoot her newborn pictures. this will be interesting to see how she develops her personality. at this time, me & the mr. are "ttc" (which is fertility forum speak for "trying to conceive"). although i have to say, our other baby (because our 'first' baby is our chihuahua, popo) is the business, we haven't been giving that department in our life the fullest attention (ok, was that too much information? hahaha).

okay, off to more photo editing...
